Find out more about fluoride can benefit adult teeth.
Disrupting Demineralization
Every time you eat, the bacteria in your mouth produce acid that dissolves the calcium and phosphate in your enamel. That process is called demineralization, and if your body cannot replace those minerals fast enough, a cavity forms.
When applied in high concentrations, fluoride pulls calcium and phosphate back into the tooth, creating a new, tougher mineral structure called Fluorapatite. The new surface is actually more resistant to future acid attacks than your original enamel.
Strengthening Cavity-Prone Spaces
The areas between your teeth (interproximal spaces) are the most common sites for adult cavities because they are the hardest to clean. Professional fluoride seeps into these tight spaces and under the edges of existing dental work. By strengthening those high-risk areas, fluoride provides excellent protection brushing and flossing alone might miss.
A Targeted Approach to Sensitivity
If you experience a sharp zap when drinking cold water or eating ice cream, your dentin may be exposed. Professional fluoride helps plug microscopic tubules, blocking the pathway to the nerve and significantly reducing sensitivity. With one application, enjoy improved comfort and tooth strength.
